went to advance auto and had the check engine code read...was told there was no codes popping up. they didnt let me just run it myself. i honestly think ive used one more than he had.(ive worked at both advance auto and auto zone and my grandfather builds race car engines for a living for the last 30 years) ugh. frustrations aside my husband said ill never have another Mini and should sell mine when we fix the issue. he was annoyed with my first one. this is my 2nd. i still love it. but it is expensive to fix. he was talking with his father and trying to troubleshoot and they came to the agreement its possibly an injector. if its more than that im not sure. we cant limp the car to a different place to get codes read by someone who knows what theyre doing unfortunately. its a huge bummer of a monday, thats for sure. thanks tho. any other suggestions are welcome tho!

Code will help alot! Has the car ever had the intake valves cleaned(Walnut Blasting)? Also the HPFP are a known issue and can cause starting/rough idle to misfire issues.
Misfire in these cars does not automatically mean a loss of spark. These cars treat loss of spark, no fuel, and or no compression to a cylinder as a "misfire" code

ive only had the car a year. im the 3rd owner. no idea if intake valves have been cleaned. one of the spark plugs was shot and we think that caused the coil to have an issue. those are all replaced now. were doing the battery ecu re-set today to see if that will help. otherwise hes replacing an injector. were sharing his truck at the moment since hes first shift and im 2nd. so were limited on what we can get done in a day. his dad is coming over to help him while im at work. maybe they can get it to get codes read. or just buy a damn code reader. between the 2 of them the car will get fixed. there will be alot of swearing and frustrations but itll get done. thanks guys.

how did you know it was a misfire if you couldnt get codes? the car shakes? for "compression", you can remove the spark plugs, put put back the coil packs back but DONT connect the electrical plugs, then hand rotate the engine CLOCKWISE and see if the coils pop. that gives you an idea if you have some compression.

IMO... the best diagnosis I get are the local Mini dealer... they are pretty darn good. While it may cost $125 for the diagnosis... I consider it a cost saving expense as I can zero in on the real issues quickly without guessing (FYI... many independent shops are guessing with Mini's IMO - don't ask how I know). I do the vast majority of the work myself and use ECS and Way for most of my 2007 MCS parts. Good luck.
