Thermostat Warranty Question

Just took my 2010 R56 base model to the shop leaking coolant. I understand there is an extended warranty for the thermostat housing. However, it only seems to apply to the S model. Is this correct? I assume that both models use the same thermostat housing with integrated thermostat? Does anybody have details on the coverage of the extended warranty you could share. Thanks!

I haven't heard of MINI extending the warranty on the thermostat. Call you local MINI dealer with the last 7 digits of your VIN and they can check. Being a 2010 I assume your original warranty would be expired. As far as extended warranty coverage it depends on if it's a MINI warranty or an aftermarket warranty. The coverage between the two would be completely different. There are 2 thermostat part numbers depending on the production date and engine. There are 3 different temperature sensor adapters again depending on the production date. When it comes to the thermostat it's better to spend the extra money and take it to the dealer rather than an independent shop.

Yep, you might be covered or not. Its based on VIN, If you need a new one which is in the link we have a 3 year on the Bremmen Parts unit and a 2 year on the MINI genuine part.

** For vehicles with production from 6/2010 to 3/2012 Base/JCW models will require ES2558172 if this is the first time being replaced. All other models it's a direct fit.

See this thread for the adapter

Thanks all for the info. Had the dealer replace the thermostat, water pump, and cross over pipe. Ordered a vacuum pump from ECS that I'll install myself. That should hold it for a month or so. My next major repair will be to jack it up and install a Honda Civic.

Just don't use a 7th Gen engine. We had to replace the head gasket on my son's 2005 EX Special Coupe. Major $$$!
