Sorry to hear of your trouble, add a bit more information and maybe we can help.

Year: 2007.
Model? (so we can figure out gen1 or gen2)
Miles?

that's the minimum to start. Have you checked the owner's manual for information about the dash symbol?

Not sure if it’s a gen 2 I think it is because it has the fob and no key but I might be wrong. It is an 07 base model with 95000 miles. When I insert the fob in the dock on the dash everything works electronically, when I push the start button engine turns over but will not start. The car died on me a few days ago and I found I had a bad battery, I have installed a new one since. There is also now an orange key simple showing up on the tachometer. I can not find what this symbol means.

when you insert the key, do you hear it clicking (one click)?

once key fob inserted, foot on brake, and push start, what happens? (the key symbol comes out?)

do you have comfort access option?

did you scan the car for codes even if there is no Check engine light?

No I do not have the comfort access option, I have not scanned it. I don’t remember hearing a click when inserting the key but I can check that later

also, try to close the doors and disconnect the battery for few minutes. Then reconnect it and open the doors with the key fob. maybe the car thinks it's stolen.

if you have a sunroof, can you check if the passenger side carpet is wet or if water got into the fuse box behind the passenger kick panel.

lastly, if you spray quick start after the air filter box, does the car seem to want to start?

No sunroof, no water in fuses. I pulled the battery had it tested it was bad so I replaced it. I have used starter fluid still no start. Thank you for your suggestions

Moving you to the Gen2 trouble forum, best place to find help. Search here, lots of threads on no-start issues.

What you describe is similar to the experience I’m currently going through. I have a 2009 R56S and same issues. Will kick but won’t start. I changed battery and nothing happens. I do see hat I have codes as the engine light is on when attempting to start so I hope to read those in the next day or two. I thought about testing with the second key after reading the comments on the key fob battery going.

Well I’m glad I’m not alone. Are you seeing the same key symbol? I’ll post a better picture

Yes, I am. I also came across an exclamation mark as well. I can’t get out to start it at this moment, but I’ll attempt tomorrow and see if the notifications are still the same and make more detailed notes.

I do see the engine light on as well. I have a thread where one mod mentioned looking at it with a Bluetooth OBD2 reader and the Torque app. Looking on ECSTuning for a OBD2. Also came across a RavenSpeed unit as well. Will pick one up today or tomorrow. Hope it comes before the weekend.

could you verify the wiring under the hood being intact and not chewed. also, could you check the crankshaft position sensor.

I received the OBD2 reader(elm 327) and using the Dadh Comand app for iOS I was able to look at the codes stored. At first look there was one pending code found “P15E8”. I powered the car off and attempted to start without success, engages the OBD2 reader and the pending code was no longer present.

A quick search for the code lead me to vague descriptions that seems to point to engine / coolant deltas. Some comments ide tofu and the temperature sensor being the issue, but I don’t think I’m looking to explore that just yet. Hopefully someone can chime in and provide more insight to the code.

I think that the key icon on the dash may be a reminder that the key is in the holder. When you tested, did you have the doors open or closed?

I will share that when I unlock the car and open the door I do hear what sounds to be the engine being primed.

One additional thing I did was I added Stabil to my tank ( enough to cover the 10 gallons I think are in there).

You mentioned that you tried using ether to start it. Would you be able to point out where under the hood was your inception point? I’ve done that in the past, but I had access to the throttle body and he intake didn’t include a filter encasing like our mMini’s have.

Hope the above is helpful.

Yes helpful. I have seen the key symbol with doors open and closed. I sprayed the ether in the air intake just after the air filter I had to undo a clamp and slip the hose off the air box. This clamp is just to the left of the air box.

Thanks for that. Are you referring to either of the two areas where the red arrows are pointing at?

Hi Brianaes, just following up - were you able to get your car started?
Did you come across any other troubleshooting/diagnosis?
Mine is till stuck on the driveway. Attempted to start yesterday but no luck.

No luck yet. Mine is currently under 6 inches of snow and climbing. I think I am going to bite the bullet and take it to the dealer
