The important thing to remember about automotive wiring is that the metal body of the car is grounded. It in effect is the negative terminal of the battery all over the car. In an MC/S, there is a little plastic box with a remote terminal for the battery. It is the positive terminal. There is no box with a negative terminal since the entire car is the negative terminal. Any metal part that can trace back to the car body directly with metal is part of the wiring system. Most cars have just a single wire going to the powered item, and the item is attached to the car body or "grounded." The switch can be in that one positive wire, or an insulated litem may have the switch in a wire going "to ground." When current runs through the item to ground it is powered and will operate.
