Rear caliper pistons

Hey all, quick question on pushing back the rear caliper pistons:

are they directional? Meaning, do the pistons have to be rotated clockwise or counter-clockwise, and are they the same direction on both sides of the car?

Thanks in advance,
JC

You need a special tool that turns the piston and pushes it back, you'll risk damaging the dust boot, if you don't use the tool'

I bought this one:

Yes, I know about the tool, and I have one arriving tomorrow from Amazon. I was able to rotate the pistons with needle-nose pliers, but they didn't seem to be moving in or out, so my question is which direction to rotate the piston, and is it the same on both calipers?

thanks for your response

I believe its a combination of rotate and push in.

Understood, and thank you, but my specific question is the direction of the piston rotation. Anyone?

I don't think it matters which direction you rotate it, I think the tool rotates it clockwise.
