R56 Cooper S Engine Knock/pop, oil pressure loss

I have an 08 Mini Cooper S that’s been through a few things. We’ve swapped out the water pump, spark plugs, new thermostat housing, fresh oil, and some new gaskets here and there. When driving it if I push it when I accelerate the good old
limp mode with the check engine light comes on. It’s spitting a P1538 so we figured it’s a bad sensor. I’ve just been clearing the code out. My idler pulley also started making noise and I was planning on swapping that out. I’ve put about 2,000 miles on it like that. last night when I was driving the mini starting making knocking noises while slowing down, as I slowed down to come to a stop the knocking became loud and frequent and the oil pressure light came on. I had it towed home. The car will still start but I’m trying to figure out what the issue could be. Is my engine done? Could it be the idler pulley gone bad and my belt went out? Did I drop a rod? I haven’t had a chance to take everything apart and inspect it but some advice as to where to check and what to check and if anyone has ever seen this would be nice. Thank you!

few things you can check:
1- accessory belt.
2- timing chain.
3- oil pump.....if the timing chain guides broke at some point in time, some pieces might have been sucked into the pump and now reducing the oil flow.

when you had the oil light come on, you should stop driving it until you get it checked out. hopefully it's not a big issue. also where are you located?
