2006 R53 Not Cool (AC)

When I purchased this car a few months ago the A/C seemed fine (maybe because it was cold out). Not as it's gotten hotter (85* or so) the A/C is blowing but not cold. Compressor is working. A/C is blowing coolish- about 79* on an 85 * day. I rented a manifold gauge set and the static pressures are 109 on the low side and 148 on the high side. According to what I have read thus far, this indicates a faulty expansion valve. With car running pressures appear to be within range 45-50 on low side and 225-250 on high side.

A few questions:
1. Is this a correct presumption?
2. How hard is it to reach? (I can't see the lines going into the firewall so I am not sure of the location)- Further, I have not been able to find a DIY tutorial or guide with pics to guide me.
3. Any tips or ideas from the A/C guru's?
4. Does anyone have some pics and info that they could share?

First, check out Item # 20 in the below thread. On replacing, there are those that say they cut out the firewall to access and then weld the cut back-in.

Was just driving home. 86*, 45% humidity. A/C temp dropped to 55* while driving and around 60* at idle. Not cold enough for me but it's doing something...
I'll take a look at the link above. I had planned to pull the engine soon so it may be prime time to tackle the issue if, in fact, it is the expansion valve.
