I think I have to replace the JBE on my 2009 Clubman S. Does the replacement JBE need to be coded to be recognized by the car? If so, is this something I can do with INPA or a higher end scanner?

Anyone? ECSTuning says a replacement JBE does not need to be programmed (as long as it is the correct part for the year and model), but MiniMania and a number of posts on different forums suggest it does need programming.

Would the JBE require reprogramming or recoding? If required, some aftermarket scan tools have the capacity to recode the JBE. Here's one example:

Has to be reprogramed, they talked about it here. For a new one. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ispreloading=1

For your old used one to be re-soldered and fixed no reprogram.

Interpretation of internet posts gets confusing because people interchangeably use the term "programming" and "coding". As you know, coding is a much simpler process than programming. I think that, if required, a replacement JBE requires coding rather than programming. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
