Check engine light Mini R57 code: 12098
My 2009 Mini R57's check engine light is on. It's the base model and has about 71,000 miles. I've been searching for info online about he the OBD codes the Bosch advanced Scanner pulled:
12098 Engine Exhaust Heater Control, Signal and
10038 DMTL Engine Error, Signal
Can't find any info on these, I'm guessing they are manufacturer specific codes because there are no letters in them.
Can you help me decipher what the codes mean?
Thanks!

First one is a lambda/O2 sensor fault detected
Second is either a leak in the fuel gas recovery system or a faulty pump in that system, the pump tests pressure when ignition is switched on. I think it is located beside the carbon filter at the back of the car. It will make a running sound when ignition is switched on for a few seconds if it is working.
Try reseting the codes and see if they come back.

I think you should just replace the O2 sensor and reset the service light first and see what happens. Lots of times O2 sensor fault will affect how fuel is being trimmed, it could the the root cause of all your trouble. After the O2 sensor replacement if the fuel pump(s) are still faulty, you'll get further insight from more CEL's.
