Are codes suppressed while reading live data?
Last fall I was forced (by an accident) to move from my R56 to a JCW R55 Clubman. When I took her out for her first AX, after a few runs I got a low power light which turned out to be a 2885 Boost Deviation. It was near the end of the day anyway, so I headed home. Roll forward, I had the code pop a couple more times, off the the next AX. Decided to get some live data this time and never did get the code. Kept it on for daily driving, never got it while the reader (a Foxwell NT520) was hooked up. I might have gotten it once since the second AX, but it has disappeared.
My suspicion is that this car sat on the lot for a while. I was traded in in about April, I bought her September 30th. This leads me to think that perhaps the waste gate, the vacuum linkage were sticking causing the issue and now that it's being worked again, all is moving as intended. But this question remains in my mind: If you have a code reader pulling live data, does the engine electronics suppress generating codes?

Interesting question. One way to find out would be to pull up coolant temp or air intake temp with your scanner's live data feature and then disconnect the sensor for the parameter you selected. I'll bet you'll see a DTC set as soon as you disconnect the sensor even if you are monitoring it with the live data feature.
