Timing Chain Installed. Intake off 1/4 inch

Everything is now back together. I installed a new timing chain kit and followed the directions of the manual and TIS.

Adter the two revolutions (or more) the intake is about a quarter inch off when I install the intake lockdown tool. I can push the lock tool down to meet the exhaust tool and it pretty much stays there.

Is this normal and ok?

I forgot to mention that this is with a new tensioner installed. Maybe I should try it with the dummy tensioner installed.

I just tries it with the dummy tensioner installed. I have about 5mm soace where the intake lockdown comes doew on the exhaust lockdown. The exhaust lockdown is perfect.

I suspect that we didn’t have the correct torque on the dummy tensioner the first time.

I guess I need to buy new vanos and exhaust sprocket bomts and try it again.

Do you have the alignment pin installed in the flywheel?

Yeah, the crank is pinned. It just seems like the intake is off a little. I read that new chains might have kinks until rotated a couple times.

Not sure. Tomorrow i am going to loosen the intake bolt and retime it to see if its better. If so, ai will buy a new bolt Monday.

The way i do it after setting the timing and locking the cams and crank is torque the intake cam first, the tensioner, the exhaust cam, then the crankshaft.

personally, my sequence ensures the chain being pulled/tight all the times so no trapping happens between the intake and exhaust cams or the exhaust and crankshaft points.
