MT missing sensor?

Today I flushed the brake lines and clutch on my son's 2013 JCW Paceman. While opening the valve on the slave cylinder to flush the clutch, I noticed an electrical connection on the front of the transmission. NewTIS refers to it as the 'zero-gear sensor.' I didn't get any hits on NAM. What does it do and how important is it? Trying to figure out if I need to replace it.

Thank you. If that’s the case, I’m not concerned. Just wanted to make sure it wasn’t something removed by the previous owner.
