New Oil Filter???
#1
OK, we got the private oil change thing worked out so our warrantees are intact. But here's the question now. Got 2 new oil filters from Knaus. They are the right number (11 42 7 512 446) but they aren't the same as the original filter. New one has a plastic seal on one end and nothing on the other. The old filter had a much larger seal at one end and a plastic seal and tube that extends up into the filter. Also, the new one has a slightly larger diameter.
If I have the right part, which end of it goes against the engine side of the filter chamber? Can someone help me with information about how this works? I'm sure it's a simple thing, but don't want to chance getting it wrong.

Could you please send me a picture of the new filter? I don't want to take mine off just yet. I'm trying to get Amsoil to make a Super HD filter for our cars.
And by the way, you cannot void a warrantee by changing oil whatever the situation or interval. there is a act of congress to protect you so don't worry about that!

I need to ask our Amsoil rep about filters for the Cooper too. I keep meaning to and I just keep forgeting.
They can't do anything about voiding warantees based on Oil changes or using different filters. Wix Inc. took several auto companies to court over this many years ago and won. The only way they can say that they can void your warranty if you use a non-manufacturer filter is if the dealer gives you the filter for free.
Ahha fat chance a dealer will ever give anything away.
