Vanos rebuild?

Is there a procedure to rebuild/disassemble the vanos from an R56 N14 S? I did some searches here but nothing specific to rebuilding or disaasembling the vanos. I am in the middle of a valve stem seal changeout and figured I would to the timing chain stuff while I had it all apart.

No MINI experience but my 2nd hand experience with other brands of cars the variable valve stuff is not rebuildable. For example, I had a variable valve timing actuator go bad -- along with the solenoid that activated it -- in my Porsche and I got handed the old actuator. It was clear the unit was not intended to ever be disassembled. The Porsche parts diagram showed no serviceable parts available for the unit so even if one got it apart new replacement parts were not available.

If you suspect the Vanos system to be "bad" best replace it with a new one. 'course, you can check with a BMW/MINI parts department to see if the parts catalog lists any serviceable parts available for the Vanos. If it does then the unit could be rebuildable provided one knows how to get it apart without wrecking it and get it back together again. The unit probably has some very close sliding fits that do not lend themselves to repair/renewal.
