Hey guys I’m getting close to getting my N14 engine put back together. Recently I purchased what was advertised as an OEM timing set on eBay.
I received it today and don’t see any kind of mini/BMW stickers on it anywhere.
On the guides it does same Germany with a part # and the letters JWIS.

I’ve attached pictures of what I received.

let me know if this looks like factory stuff to you.

Not sure of its integrity. I personally think all of them have same if not similar quality. everything is almost Chinese made! The ones I get are more blue-ish than yellow-ish.

The packaging sure does not look like what BMW uses in Germany. Also, everything I ever bought from them had a BMW sticker on either the part itself or the plastic bags with a bunch of codes, especially the BMW part numbers.

That’s what I’ve seen on all the OEM stuff Ive ordered thus far. I checked the eBay ad and they have other sets listed. Looked at some others posted on eBay and am seeing the bags I got. The stamping on the plastic guides is the same on the original ones I took off the car. I paid $180 for it so I guess I’ll give them a try.

The oem is IWIS, that looks like the fix OEM kit and not the OEM kit. base off the way its packaged. It was a warranty priced kit, might not be around too long as MINI tends to kill off these warranty part kits.
" Comes with older design 11314609482 timing chain tensioner, not the newest version 11317607551"
" This kit is for the N14 Engines R55-R57 MINI Cooper S 1/2006 to 5/2009. for a service action fix SI-M11-04-13. Does not include the newest design 11317607551 tensioner."

If you ever need info on OEM parts and manufacturers, I am your guy. Do watch on eBay and amazon because they do have a bunch of fakes on there. They steal our pictures from ECS Tuning all the time. In fact that's our pic and they copied a MINI logo and stuck it on top. :(

Thanks ESC!! That’s got me worried. Attached is a picture of the tensioner in the kit. By looking at the head of it I’m hoping it’s 551. What do you think.

I’ve been buying quite a few parts from you especially since your in Ohio. This was a timing set that was about $50-60 cheaper and the way this mini is nickel and diming me every bit helps.

I’ll be getting on the site tonight looking for some tranny seals.

Picture of my tensioner is attached.
Thanks again for your help.
John

Welcome, John.

The Newer 482 and the 551 looks the same generally, its printed with the end digits of the part # on the side of the part, that's how you can tell. They changed the spring inside between the 482 and 551, they are both 82mm now, they just changed the tension on the spring for longevity of the rails and chain for what i know.

Thats great you are close, we will have a cars and coffee again this year, as couple of them. as we have local pickup on parts once ordered and in stock. We have a new person in the lobby now that can help people out. I know that might be a bit of a drive but our Cleveland, Detroit, and Columbus MINI owners stop by all the time. We have some drive down from Toronto, Canada.

Well crap!!! I don’t want to redo this job again anytime soon, do you think I should pull it out and look at the #? Will it hurt anything by pulling it out? Can I reuse the washer since I haven’t fired the engine or even turned it over?

Thanks again
