is this a problem? what is it?
First post here. Hope this is in the correct place. I'm certainly not a mechanic, so please excuse my ignorance here.
While installing the WMW turbo heat shield blanket, I felt a loose piece under the turbo. Sorry for the lack of description. See images Just wondering if these pieces are supposed to be attached in some way, and what they are? This is on a 2011 R57 N18 engine. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

From this viewpoint I believe it's the turbocharger holder bracket that supports the weight of the turbo from below. There should be a bolt, please check on realoem. Trying to remember, but there is a chance you have to remove the oil return line to fasten that bolt. Maybe someone forgot and was too lazy to remove all the stuff to get to there.

So, if I read this right. I'd need the #15 on this diagram? https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...58#11657595678.

Also, I'd suggest to check if it sheared off and the rest of the bolt is still in the turbo. Probability is low, but if it's the case you will probably need to take off the turbo. Otherwise front end service mode should be enough to get that tackled.
Don't think this is a special bolt, so maybe you have something around that fits in terms of size and pitch (didn't find the specs on realoem though).

Yeah, I'd make it out of Aluminum angled or hollow square stock from Lowes/Home Depot before I paid $50.
$5 for a foot
It looks to be basic with a few bends.
