Replaced the gas pedal assembly last week....As you probably already know, ours is a "drive by wire" system....and while it wasn't receiving any codes about the pedal, I had purchased this new one years ago here in the NAM marketplace. It was going for half price so couldn't resist a good deal, and my MINI had over 200K miles on the odometer back then....I thought one day "maybe" sometime in the future I would need it and been in storage ever since. Last week I found it in the garage attic looking for other MINI stuff to sell here. So I figured what the hell, got all this "covid-19 time off"....so I installed it.
Was a bit of a PITA because the original assembly was modified with an attached micro-switch for the CRYO2 spray system that is triggered when pedal reaches the fully pressed position during WOT runs. So it had to be properly aligned and work comensurate with pedal pressure purfectly.
Anyhow, after little dremeling off some of the plastic housing the microswitch attached to the new assembly perfectly..
So finally took it out for a ride today.....WOW !
Accelleration is definately improved, more precise with a crisper throttle response....back to chirping 2nd and 3rd gears...also noticed more pops and snaps in the exhaust note when letting off the gas like it used to do.....I'll take the old one apart and see what it looks like inside but would apear the electronics inside were waining making for a doggish ride for some time.
I replaced mine about a year ago on my R53 as a possible fix to the elusive P1125 code. Worked for a while but code still pops up every now and again. Just don’t want to spend the coin on a new TB when I can shut car off, recrank and keep cruising.
That would more likely be the module on the Throttle Body....they only come with new TB.
In the case I had, degredation of the pedal performance was over such a long period of time, I lost track of how it should have been working....while it was functional it was not performing as it once was. Bang for the buck well spent.
Well the difference to a degree is like adding a Sprint Booster but at a lower setting.....going off throttle the exhaust sound is more animated, definately more responsive and crisp.
Still havent had the time to dremmel the old one apart, may try today....I'm guessing the internals have a cylindrical copper coil, like inside a transistor am/fm radio....
