WTF is wrong with my car lol

Hey guys, I mostly just lurk around on here... Anyways my wife has a '12 mini cooper S 6 speed. Recently it decided to throw 2 engine codes (P0324 and P0336). It turned on fine that morning, she drove it to the post office and it lit up the check engine, limp mode, BRAKE, and traction control. It was super wet outside and I cant imagine this is something too too bad. We went to one shop by where she works and they "didnt have the tools" so I took it to a guy I know and he said his software couldn't communicate with it. The codes are permanent so no way of deleting them to see if it was a fluke. She said the cover inside her wheel well where the fog light is took flight the day before, and I didn't know if something in there could cause this. Other people are telling me it could be the connection for the crankshaft sensor but I couldn't find it when I got under there...

It is on its way to BMW right now (no mini dealer here) to get diagnosed. Crossing my fingers this isn't huge. She loooooves this car.

P0324 - knock control system error
P0036 - crankshaft position sensor A Circuit Range / Performance

The crank position sensor is in the bell housing, between the engine and transmission.

Where are you located? Might need to find a BMW and Mini specialist in the area, or get a Schwaben scanner to read the deep codes. The standard OBD codes don’t mean too much on these little cars.

I ended up taking it to BMW. They said to start with the crank sensor which we did. They couldn't get one quickly but I did and saved a little money, Just got a call... still not fixed. they think it could be the DME. FML

update. Replaced the Crank Shaft position sensor at BMW. Still having the codes and still in limp mode. Tested the wire from sensor to the computer (DME) and tested good for ohms and volts with no drop. Now what? replace the DME?

anyone have any suggestions?

I would suggest going to the passenger side panel and check for water damage in there especially if you have a skylite in your car.

which panel? The floor board? Assuming that is where the DME/ECU is?

I found an import shop that can completely reflash this unit/etc... or at least has a vendor who can. Turn around time is 2 weeks though :(
I am going to go grab it from the dealership today, remove the JB+ box and see if that helps at all before I go drop it off at the specialist shop.

The floor panel is not where the dme is... and believe me you do not want to go down the dme route until you have ruled everything out. You can see my thread about my dme issues on the forums.

Check you footwell relay panel first aif your issue seems to relate to your sensor. I'm not sure if the bus goes through that panel or not but it may.
if that looks good, I would back probe my crank sensor wires at the dme. (Under the hood) you'll need to get familiar with wiring schematics for your model year.

Doing the dme is no fun but I'd strongly recommend you look at contact precisionecu first as a reflash might not do it for you.

Did you ever get this figured out? I'm having the exact same issue.

You have the same 2 codes? have you checked your cranks sensor as well as your cam sensor?

Hey all, I have the same symptoms as the OP. 2013 Countryman S All4, 72K miles. Getting the P0336 code, brake light, traction light, 4x4 light, and the car is in limp mode. It has a hard time starting/cranks a while when it tries to start. @turboxer , any updates/what solved it for you?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
