Power steering pump - how to manually activate? - Should it run in Ign-on?
1 - Power steering pump - how to manually activate?
2 - should it run in ign-on key position or just when motor is running?
I wish to flush the PO old fluid (Generic PS fluid) but don't want to start engine as I am in service mode plus my exhaust manifold and exhaust are off waiting on parts.
Being in ign-on and turning the wheel doesn't activate the pump.
Thank in advance - Andy

I'm looking to purge the prior (wrong) liquid.
Drained the reservoir, have the pump out hose (hose into the reservoir) going into a container and filled the reservoir with the correct fluid and wish to run the pump so it flushes (pushes) out the wrong liquid from the steering system after which I will reconnect the pump out hose back to the reservoir and fill to mark.

the important part of this reply: 2) I bet applying direct voltage to the pump should work. If anyone has done this I'd appreciate some guidance considering the PS seems to be a sensitive beast.
the rest of the reply: yeah, saw that a while ago - it is one of the things that had me go to the Method 2 listed there.
"The next step requires starting the engine and moving the steering wheel to circulate the power steering fluid"
Two things on that
1) guess running means running - too bad...Often Ign-on turns on all running functions
