R52 Rain Leaking In

Hi all... new MINI owner here. Picked up a low-mileage R52 and as luck would have it we had quite a rainstorm the day after and of course it leaks. Water is entering at the top front of both sides (driver’s side is much worse). The little “cup” on the weather strip that is supposed to deal with this looks pretty flattened so the water just drips straight to the corner of the floor mat right below. My question are will a new weather strip resolve it (don’t want to spend $150 only to find I have the same issue) and does anyone know if the 2008 Hardtop floor mats will also fit the convertible? One thing I can do to mitigate the problem is put in some Weathertech mats which will hold quite a bit of liquid before running over the lip but I was told they don’t make mats for the R52. TIA!

Pretty ironic your user name is "TARPleyg, which was actually going to be my suggestion until you could get the leak sorted.

The R52 is actually a Gen 1 Cooper; produced in the hardtop R50/R53 2002-2006 and through 2008 in convertible R52 form. The Gen 2 mats might fit but would think the car would be better suited with a set of Gen 1 mats. I run the rubber OEM ones. They're good mats for the price point and will keep the mud off the carpet, but they're not dished so they won't hold a pool of water like those Weathertechs might.

New strip might do it.

you can also adjust the window regulator inside the door, at bottom. Two bolts on each door

Did you find a cure?

Hi there
This is a problem for my R52 too. I know it’s been a few years but did you find a cure or have to buy new? I can’t find anywhere in the Uk that sells new, only used, I suppose they just don’t make them anymore. Does anyone know where I can buy them new? Even if I have to get them shipped, I will. Many thanks!!
P.S- does anyone know the correct name or part number? That would be a massive help.
