Limp mode with misfire error codes

Originally posted this on R60, but it looks like this is better place for my question. While driving normally about 20 mph and starting to accelerate, my early 2012 Countryman S All4 very suddenly sputtered a bit and went into limp mode. I drove home about 4 miles at low speed. Engine feels weak and idles roughly. There now seems to be a slight smell of gas at idle. I bought a code reader and found these.

3490 Map thermostat, activation: Line disconnection
2EFE Combustion misfires, several cylinders: detected
2F00 Combustion misfire, cylinder 2: detected
2EF7 Misfire: fuel injection deactivation
2F02 Combustion misfire, cylinder 4: detected
2EED Combustion misfiring, cylinder 4: Fuel injection deactivation
2EE2 Combustion misfiring, several cylinders: damaging exhaust gas after start sequence
2EF0 Combustion misfiring, cylinder 4: damaging exhaust gas after start sequence
2EE9 Combustion misfiring, cylinder 2: damaging exhaust gas after start sequence
2FA9 Ignition, cylinder 2: combustion period too short

Does it seem likely to be HPFP? It's early 2012 model, so still under HPFP warranty, and I'm trying to decide whether to go straight to dealership, or to maybe take it to an independent and get spark plugs changed first.....

Any advice much appreciated!! Thanks,

Dan

Start by looking at basic stuff first. Could be as simple as bad spark plugs.

I’m having the same issue at the moment except with random misfires in cylinders 1,3 and 4. I’ve already checked coils and plugs, all looked good except cylinder 1 that showed signs of raw fuel on the plug head. Did a vacuum leak test which came back good.

my question: my assumption it has to do with carbon buildup due to the smell of fresh unburnt fuel from the exhaust. However I noticed that the exhaust seems to be sucking air in, would carbon cause this?

Mileage and brief maintenance history would help ? ( coils / plugs ever been replaced ).
Also thermostat is more electronic than mechanical running all sorts of stuff considered a part of the emissions system.

One way to check to see if it’s the coils just swap 1 and 3 with 2 and 4 and see if the misfire moves, if so then replace all 4 coils and plugs, fcp euro and ECS tuning have ignition kits for this.

Thanks all for the help. Replaced coils 2 and 4 yesterday and misfires went away, so it looks like that was the problem. Given car has 40K miles and it seems easy enough, I'll order new plugs and replace the other two coils.
