front window panel/column cracked???....help please

Hey guys...Just noticed yesterday that the front window column/panel is cracked. Have no idea how it happened. Has anyone ever had problems completely shutting the door due to the window not moving the quarter inch it is suppose to when opening and closing? One day I tried closing the door and it wouldn't shut. I had to roll down the window. I'm thinking this may have caused the column to crack. Any explanations anyone? Is this something that may required to be repaired right away? How much would this cost or would this be covered in the warranty? Input anyone?

If you are talking about the outside A-Pillar cover, it should be replaced under warranty.

I've heard about them falling off at high speed so might be somthing to get replaced soon if you can.

Yup...That's exactly it. Ironic thing is, the crack is similar and it happened the same way it did to that Cooper. When I went to shut the door, the window didn't dip down and so it wouldn't shut. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this will be covered by Mini right??? Also, who should I contact regarding this problem, the service department or Mini USA?

Happened to me with my May '04 build MCS. It was easier to order the $35 replacement part from Cassic Mini than to do a four hour RT to the dealer. Push back the weather seal, remove three screws and pop it off. Installation is the reverse. Seems to be a random occurance. Probably won't be the last one.

Cheers,

I've had to replace the window regulator twice ...... window non-dipping problem ... both covered by warranty ... A pilliar cracked ( unrelated ) also covered by warranty.

Both pillar covers on my '04 broke withing the past 10 days. The upper rear-most quadrants cracked within a few millimeters of being mirror images, from the center of th top to just above the top screw hole. The cracked area is about 2.5 by 4 inches. Never happened on my '02 during the time I owned it.

No trips on bad roads, still commuting on the same relative smooth roads. No wild temperature swings. Anyone know what may cause it, and how to keep it from happening?
