Is it ok to just replace the WP pulley?

I have an R56 1.6 base non-s. The car is not over heating but i have been told that the waterpump pulley needs to be replaced plus it sounds like ****. is it ok if i just replace the pulley and not the whole pump? i dont want to have the extra cost of anti-freeze if i dont have to right now. i am doing a whole timing chain replace come May-ish when it finally warms up enough in Minnesota in case it takes me a couple days and plan on doing the water pump then.

Since it is (very) unlikely that the friction wheel pulley's surface is damaged (and could thus damage the new water pump pulley), I see no harm in replacing the water pump pulley only.

And since you are planning on changing the water pump pulley yourself: Have you verified yourself that it is indeed in need of replacement (i.e. its contact surface is unevenely worn and/or pieces are missing)? A worn/damaged serpentine belt causes similar noise.

Even residue/dirt inside the crank pulley's tracks can cause a knocking noise.
