Mini Radio
#2
I have no idea how this is done either. When I ordered my Mini yesterday, I spoke with our local dealer's sales manager about this and he had no clue either. However, one of the BMW guys there used to manage a local car stereo store here in Denver and I had him take a look. He said it looked like a custom bezel would probably be needed, as it looked a little bigger than a typical DIN opening to him. When I asked if the factory head unit has pre-outs for outboard amps he just laughed. He says they never do, although he didn't specifically look at the one in the Mini. So when mine arrives in June, I'll probably be in the same boat as you. I expect, however, that I'll end up having a pro do mine as I'll be putting in amps, a sub, etc. Where they'll fit?? That's another story.

hi my name is craig and im from the UK, i know they can be taken out because when i went to a mini show before christmas the new mini was there loud and proud. I could here the sound sytem as soon as i walked in it had a top of the range Pioneer Cd player with the back seats taken out with a very nice install of 4 subs, 2 amps and tweeters all covered in red vinyl it was sweet. It was a BMW show car and it got alot of attention. There are lots of new products coming out over here that arent made by bmw so they are cheaper, Such as rollacges, induction kits, superchips, white bonnet stripes and twin exhausts etc. Anyway i hope u all have fun in america with the mini coz everybody over here has for 40 years.

Easiest thing I can suggest is check out the following link, and bookmark it and the related images for when you get your MINI!

In short: To remove the radio do the following:
1. Remove 4 bolts either side of the silver vertical pieces
2. Remove 2 screws in cupholders
3. Carefully pull out shiny rim surrounding gearstick
4. Put your hand under the mirror adjuster dongle and pop that up out of it's fitting
5. Remove screw(s) (sorry forgotten!) that are now visible
6. Lift up whole unit to reveal polystyrene pieces under each silver vertical piece, and carefully remove both of them
7. Silver pieces can now be moved out of the way
8. Remove 4 screws holding front of radio in place
I hope this helps!
