Immobilizer?

Immobilizer?
I'll try here since I didn't get an answer in the R52 forum.
I have a 2006 R52 that sat for months with a dead battery. When I replaced the battery, the car will crank (turn over), but won't fire. There does not appear to be spark, and there is no smell of fuel from the exhaust. I don't see anything abnormal on the dash. I tried 2 keys with the same result.
How do I know if the immobilizer is keep the car from starting when it cranks?
Anything else I should try?

had the same problem with my 06 R52 when I got it home....had to send the EWS module, the ECM, and the key to RPM Motorsports to have the EWS module repaired. I had no spark and no fuel injector pulse....wasn't cheap, but the car started right after I got everything back and installed

Read here, all your questions will be answered....but you will need to draw your own conclusions....I had my scanner plugged in and checked some of the live data. I had crank sensor pulse, and cam sensor pulse

You can narrow down your issues.
1. Pull one spark plug an see if you have spark.
2. You can either check with a volt meter by pulling one of your injector plug wires an prob it. Then have someone crank the car.
If you have spark an pulse at the injectors then you have other issues.
Had a friend with similar issues. He thought it was his EWS. Turned out his fuel pump was not producing enough fuel pressure for it to start.
You can get inpa along with the cable an realign your EWS to your DME.

If I buy a replacement ECU and it doesn't work, do you take it back?

Check for spark an voltage to the injectors. If you have both. Then you EWS is working.

just send it back to me if it does not work, your only out the shipping I'll refund the rest.

Forgive me for wanting to be clear. You seem to be saying that there is not a way to tell if the immobilizer is working. I have indications that there is not spark and no fuel. I get the impression that could be from the immobilizer, or from other things like a bad crank sensor, or maybe even a bad fuel pump (no fuel pressure leads to no spark, though that isn't clear). If I had spark or fuel, I would be able to rule out the immobilizer, but I don't seem to have either, though I may need to test more carefully.

OK, this is *really* embarrassing, but maybe my report will help some other guy. I got my car running. Yay! But I'm kicking myself because it was a simple 5-amp fuse. I know the first step in troubleshooting is to check the fuses, but I skipped it this time thinking it had to be something else because the car sat for a long time. That was a mistake. Moral of the story: ALWAYS check the fuses first!
THANK YOU to shrevemini for spending non-trivial time helping me load inpa. I'm really sorry I skipped this basic step and caused you to waste time.
