Ghost of Lucas

My MCS (may '03) is possessed. I've had an ongoing glitch where the e-brake will switch the dash lights on and off. Tried to take care of it while on vacation but missed my appt at the dealer. Today, the ghost came back, horribly. The tach, dash lights, any idiot lights on the tach and my key locking (not the unlock feature) alarm on feature ain't working. The speedo also is making herky jerky like when I turn the key to first position w/o starting it up.

Made arrangments to drop off Bloo on Monday.

Anyone else encounter funky electrics?

Luigi

Reminds me of an old joke:

Do you know why the Brits drink warm beer?
- Lucas refrigerators....

In addition to a 2005 MCS, I also have 1965 Triumph TR-4 (speaking from experience)!

If I use the sun roof, then the passenger window won't operate for at least 10 minutes after the sun roof is closed. (!) After 10 minutes or so, everything is fine.

FUNky cars, huh?

Just love mine to death. I was driving my '73 bug in the meantime and the poor thing was crying for its momma by the time I got Bloo back. I think my driving style has changed since Bloo came along.

BTW, HBoom, I can relate. I also own a '69 MGB, although alot of its electrical now consists of Bosch products including the alternator.

Folks, the main culprit turned out to be the wiring to my flat tire reset button. It was rubbing against my e-brake and wore through. It then shorted out and blew a fuse. I replaced the fuse thinking I had isolated the problem but apparently the fuse didn't blow fast enough and the dash light wiring became effected. The dash lights wouldn't turn off, ever. Even with the key off.

Dealer took Bloo in, fixed the wiring and then proceeded to change out the instrument cluster. Thank god for that warranty.

Ya'll better have a looky at that flat tire resent wiring under the brake boot.

Luis
