So I've ran into something here that I can't seem to find an answer for. I've purchased new output shaft seals on my 06 JCW from Rock auto, but they are nothing like what's on the car. Only one transmission is available to select with all parts searches, and all seals have same dimensions. However, when removing the existing seal, it's completely different type. It has this metal sleeve that wraps over the edge of the seal housing, total PITA to remove, and it's a two piece deal. The replacement looks like a normal seal on one side, and this metal kind on the other. See pic. It does kind of fit the housing, but it's metal on metal vs the original rubber lined one. I'm stumped, and nobody online has seem to ran into this. Anybody ever done it before?
