Strut and Knuckle Don't Align

Hi folks,

Replacing the strut assembly on my 2013 Mini cooper hardtop (base model), I can't seem to get the knuckle low enough to accept the new strut I've installed (see photos).

Advice is appreciated. Thoughts and prayers are also accepted.

The control arm bushings will provide some resistance. You have to push down on the control arm to get the knuckle low enough.

Okay thanks, I'll give that a try.

Wrestling the control arm down while pulling the strut over WORKED! Now to figure out why the knuckle doesn't accept the strut. Attempting to sand down the strut (too much paint perhaps?) and add some lubricant. This repair's a real monster when it's an old machine. Thanks for the help thus far.
