Time for new spark plugs?

In a couple weeks I am going to be begin the mods by installing a 15% pulley, bora cat back, cold air intake and the computer reprograming. Should I put in (correct me if i'm wrong) cold range spark plugs? I thought i saw somewhere that if you were to install a reduction pulley it was a good idea. any thoughts?

For your mods you can install colder spark plugs but it is not a requirement. IK-22 plugs are commonly used.

I ran my pullied MCS with stock plugs for several months then switched to IK-22s and both work fine. No real difference I could detect.

Your thread was moved over to Beneath the Bonnet.

I ran a month with stock on the 15%, but put in IK22 more so cuz it was recommended by randy, cobra websites, M3 webistes, etc. Did I notice a difference in whp or torque? hard to say haven't dyno'd with them. I put them in with the screamin demon coil and live wires from Mossmini. I did notice it fires up at the hint of turning the key.

The main reason to use a colder plug is to fend off detonation. You won't see a power gain. Think of it as a safety gain.

I thought that the cooler plugs stopped detonation, which causes retardation of the spark causing loss of power. So while they don't add power they prevent power loss.

Or I could be F.O.S.

By themselves they will not stop detonation. They help to reduce the risk of detonation. Typically with a colder plug you have the ability to run more timing than you normally would. More timing, more fuel, more power. In theory. Reality does not always work that. To thing running colder plugs makes you immune to detonation would be a very big mistake. Remember not all detonation is audible.

Your almost correct Colder plugs won't stop detonation but will help prevent it. Since timing is controlled by the ecu, unless you have a bunch of carbon build-up that would increase compression, plugs are the most common cause of detonation. You'll not hear any pinging, the ecu will retard timing by, I believe, as much as 11 degrees. That equals a big loss of power. With all the money I spent on pulley, intake and exhaust to make more power, damned if I'm going to lose that power to save a few bucks on plugs. My .05(inflation)

OK,OK....Maybe "stop" was a little strong. I think you both agree with the basic premise, tho.

I ordered the Beru plugs from Outmotoring.com. They were $28 plus shipping. I know it's not as common a plug as the Denso IK22, but reviews I found seemed to indicate they are a good plug.

A little off topic, but check out thier prices on Powerslot rotors and Hawk brake pads too, plus free shipping if the order is over $100!
