noise when I shift, normal?

Since it was so nice today I decided to roll my windows down and as I shift I can hear a little almost clicking noise that can be heard from the outside when I shift. Once the windows are rolled up I can't hear it. is this normal?
it doesn't sound major but I thought i would ask, thanks!

Mark

Probably not a issue.

My 03 did that as well. It was nearly a clunk or clank. Only heard it when the windows were down. Never got any worse, never caused a issue in 13,000 miles. Pretty normal tranny sound I think. Others told me they heard their cars do it, some said they never heard it.

My 05 has a pretty loud clank between 1st and 2nd. I've only got 1400 miles on it, but I don't remember hearing it a week ago. I even hear it a bit with the windows up.

I'm not concerned yet but if it gets louder I will be.

My '04 MCS used to do this and I think my '05 MCS generates the same tranny noise. I never had any problems with the '04 so I think this is the nature of the Getrag gearbox.

Thanks again for being so helpful, I appreciate it, especially since this topic isn't that exciting.

Hey I hear that too - I don't know that a transmission "normally" makes occasional metallic clicks, perhaps it does...

Along with a teensy rattle that's the absolute dickens to reproduce (yet I will Swear it's there) it's on my "Mention at 1st Service" list, with priority Yellow (, i know...). Meanwhile I listen for changes, and Motor On.

You may be surprised at what MINI-Nerds find "exciting".
