Trouble Code P0335

The car died yesterday (across the street form a bar- not necessarily a bad thing) and my Palm plugged into the OBD port indicated this trouble code as the culprit. The code is described as Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction. It seems to me that the sensor was not reading crankshaft rotation or not getting a reading it liked and then shut the car down. I should know more from the dealer later today. Has anyone else come across this problem?

Crankshaft position sensor was changed by dealer on 4/8. Car ran OK until 4/9 PM when it would not start and left me stranded. Unfortunately, I did not have my code reader, so I do not know wht was indicated. The car went back to the dealer on a flatbed, again. Not my idea of a good Saturday afternoon. I anticiapte they will read codes and go through the wiring harness.

My problem turned out to be with the Unichip, which caused the code. I reached this conclusion after running the car with and without the Unichip. Some of the early Unichips through error codes I later learned. The unit was replaced via Fed Ex by Unichip.

unichip?

I have the unichip installed by Randy Webb back in 03 at AMVIV (the first one).

My MCS would not start one night and then a couple of hours later it fired right up. Then it did not start a couple of nights later and would not start till the next morning. That night it would not start, did a little later, and on the way to a friends to check it out, it died, changed spark plugs and it fired right up.

So far we have replaced the coil pack and two map sensors.

So is the Unichip next?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the same problems I encountered. Try unplugging the Unichip and plugging the OEM stuff back together and you should be driveable. Then contact Unichip; they exchanged mine immediately.

I'm glad you found the problem... Hopefully the dealer didn't charged you for that... but since it's a problem related to an aftermarket part.... ???

The service manager was good to me. They did not want to fool with the Unichip. However, after the techs could not find a problem and we discussed removing the Unichip system, as well as cleaning the pin connectors and receptacles on the ECU plugs, to eliminate that possibility, I went up to the dealership, removed the Unichip and cleaned all contacts with electrical cleaner spray while I was there, and plugged the OEM system back in. I was trouble free after that. I did reconnect the Unichip and had a recurrence of the symptoms to be certain of the cause before contacting Unichip. I wish Unichip, Webb, or people on NAM had made me aware of the problem before multiple trips to the dealer and the time and hassle in sorting it out. There had been some discussions about Unichip throwing fairly innocuous codes, but nothing like this code, which shuts the engine down.

Out of curiosity, when you say shut the engine down, upon trying to start, was it trying to turn-over, but just couldn't quite do it, or just completeley dead?

I'm having unexplained issues (thread in the Performance forum), but removing the UNIChip only marginally helped. I didn't try cleaning the contacts yet though... Thanks.
