Reset oil counter
I have changed my Oil in my MINI at the 10,000 mark. I have just founf out that it voids my warranty here in Germany. I only have a 2 year warranty anyway. I was wondering if anybody has every came up with a way reset the computer for the oil counter or do I need to go back to the dealer and pay about 15 Euros.
Thanks,
Dano

do a search of the threads. It is on here. I had to reset it myself because the dealer forgot. But the answer is here.

5)In about 5-8 sec RST will show in the left corner
6)Release and then hold again "15000" will show, press and release
7)Car is now reset to the 15,000 service - (has completed 10,000 mile service) and will count down from 15,000.
I have followed this procedure up to step 6 with 15000 showing but did not reset. I'm only at 2700 miles now but changed oil at 1250. Note: the 15A and RST are a little difficult to read because of Capital and Small letters.
Good luck

No they don't. They charge 100 Euros plus I have to bring my own Oil.
I have found something that Might be useful to other people. I plan on ordering one after I get back from my military deployment.
Here is the link.

Click on the R5/EMX. It is a MINI Scan/Reset tool. Sounds real nice.

Careful with that. It only reads the SES codes when the light comes one. It does not allow you to reset the counter or anything else. I have found a better tool that uses a Palm PC or a laptop. It is from www.digimoto.com. It is very nice because it allows you top read each individual sensor and do things like quarter miles and even a dyno estimate. Just a thought.

Will this let you reset the counters or see an error code or anything like the other type.
Thanks.

Below are some slightly differing instructions that I've had for about 2 years.. I am curious as to why you wish to reset it, as that will certainly make the fact that you changed your oil more obvious! I'd act like I hadn't (& leave the counter be) if I were you.
<snip>
You may find this useful if you do your own oil changes. Keep in mind you should wait until your factory service expires, since resetting the indicator may lead the dealer to deny oil changes since the indicator does not indicate an oil change is due.
Press and hold the trip odometer button.
Insert car key and turn it to the first position.
Watch for the word "RESET" to appear on the Odometer indicator.
Release the trip odometer button, then press & hold it again.
Wait for the "RESET" message to flash.
Release the button, and then press & release (once only)
The Service interval is now reset to 10,000 miles

Since I am in Germant. I only get a 2 year warranty. I can see spendeding 150+ on an oil change. The dealers here don't throw in things like that. It is 100 Euros and then I have to bring my own oil. That seems pricey. So I can do it myself for allot less.

The one form Digimoto tells youw hat the code is and what it means as well as giving you all of the sensor data. As for counters you have to reset those following the directions that were posted earlier. I wasn't able to find a computer that could do it all. With the Peake tool I felt one was paying too much for to little. You need the book for the codes and all you can do is reset them. I like being able to read the sensors as well.
