1) You can't.
2) I got the paper or a link on this around here somewhere. But the easy way is to just disconnect the battery for (a certain amount of time that I don't know.
3)When looking at a certain item on the OBC just hold the button down for just over a second to reset.
I hope I have helped. Happy Motoring!!

I don't think disconnecting the battery will do it for you. I have a friend who is a MINI tech, and I asked him a about disconnecting the battery. He said it will work if you leave it that way for a couple of days. I was getting a SES light with the VGS hooked up, I put it back to stock and had him reset the ECU to "as installed", meaning when the ECU was first put in the car at the factory. He did it at work of course, on some fancy, schmancy BMW machine.
tradiuz, I will be calling you soon.

2) After I disconnected the battery for an install, I simply reconnected the leads to the battery, then inserted and turned the key to the "accessory" position for 10-15 seconds. The OBC blinked for a while, then stopped, at that point I could start the car. My instructions explained that this reset the ecu.

PS: the battery was unhooked for about 3 hours...

battery dissconnect.
Don't forget to have your radio code handy. Disconecting the battery causes the radio to go into "might have been stolen" mode, and you have to enter your secret number to reactivate the radio.
Also, disconnecting the battery will cause the ECU to store an error code saying that the battery was dissconnected, (and it will NOT erase any other error codes that may be stored).
The directions for a reset (done with the trip odometer button) are around here some where.

press and hold trip reset, turn key to onposition, release reset button.
Press reset button untill 19 shows in the box, release untill it says log on/log off. press the reset button to log in
once its logged in press the reset button untill 21 shows in the box, wait a couple seconds and it will say reset, press the trip button and it will reset. All your radio settings will be retained and the computer will be reset.
Anyone know how to reset the oil change meter on an 05? I tried with the instructions for earlier models and couldnt get it to work.
The reset works for sure, it may take a couple tries to get it to log in ( mine likes to be clicked when it says log off )

Battery dissconnect an Radio
Perhaps the model of radio makes a difference.
My 04 has the standard radio / CD player in it. At delivery it was one of the important points covered by my MA. They even gave me a separate folder with the radio code and directions in it, and told me not to lose it as any time the battery was unhooked, or if it went dead the radio would be in safe mode until the code was entered. I suspect the MINI service tools can turn it on, as they unhook the battery for many routine service procedures.
My Daughters VW had the same thing. She bought the car used. Fortunately, some one had written the code on the radio, where it was obvious when you removed the radio from the dash. For a fee and a waiting period, the VW dealer could get the code for you if you did not have it.
The idea is that theives won't steal a radio, if they know that they can't make it work. How many theives would steal an OEM radio?
