Does anyone know how to reprogram the ignition key to work on a specific car? I don't see any dip switches inside.
You can't just reprogram the key for a specific car. You have to order the key to your car from the dealer (they required registration and drivers license when I went), pick it up and pay to have them program it. The key will work in the car without being programmed, but it won't do any remote functions.. i.e. remote unlock or convenience opening of windows/sunroof. I haven't had my new ones programmed yet because I refuse to pay an hour of labor for 2 minutes of work.
for what its worth, my SA was able to do the key memory programming for free. I have noticed that several others have mentioned that their service centers do charge for the programming. So you may want to check with your service center to see if they can do it without a fee.
I checked with both and they both charge for it. I believe Charleston was slightly cheaper. It doesn't matter if you change one option or all of them. The cost was the same. I didn't check with Charlotte because the dealership was not open yet.
