I had my Jan '05 build MCS at the dealer Tuesday for the airbag lamp going on then off the previous Friday. They found no codes and told me to keep an eye on it

That same day I was driving to work, parked it, then walked to the boot to retrieve my briefcase and noticed the brake lights (all 3) were on. It was not the running lights and my headlights were off.

I tapped on the brake pedal which did not turn them off. I cycled the ignition key and that did the trick.

I did not have the issue come back until today. Same symptoms and fix.

The dealer is obviously closed now...but has anyone got a clue as to what this is? Did Mini go to Lucas for their electrical system :smile:

My car is stock except for wheels.

I have seen the brake light stuck-on situation only once with my Dec 04 build 2005 MCSC and used the same technique to clear it. It was a slightly cool, slightly humid day. I suspect that there was a relay switch stuck perhaps because of the environmental conditions.

I have not seen that situation happen again.

 

It happened twice on my May 04 MC. I believe someone once explained to me if happens when you do a certain series of events. Like engine off, lights off or something like that...

 

i think i know how to reproduce it.

if i stop like i usually do, shut the car off rolling while in neutral with parking lights on or headlights on, then shut them off after the car has stopped (its alreday off remember) they stay on. ive dont it a few times coming into gas stations and once pulling into my garage.

i'm not sure why it does it, but its fixed by just turning the key to power and then back.....

 

Yep, same thing happened to me, brake lights stayed on. I have a 2005 MCS Convertible. I reached into my car through the open window to hit the unlock toggle switch on my dash to unlock my boot latch and as I walked around to open the boot lid I noticed the lights on. So...what triggered my brake lights to come on was the unlock button. They wouldn't go off until I started the car. The lights were not on before I hit the unlock switch I'm sure of that. Has anyone else noticed the lights staying on after using the unlcok switch???
