Got a jack today- question about raising my MINI....

Hello all. I went to Harbor Freight today (decent stuff for cheap, www.harborfreight.com) and picked up an aluminum "racing" jack and two jack stands. I used them today to remove the rear fender wheel wells to install my clear fender reflectors- worked out great. I also got the jack/stands so I could do my own tire rotations. My question is - where is a good jack up location in the middle of the vehicle so I can get one side totally off the ground to perform the tire rotation? Am I missing something or is that how it is done? This sure beats using the factory jack! Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

What most people do is raise the MINI from the metal frame behind the front jacking point and use a jackstand under the actual jacking point. Raising the front will bring both wheels on that side of the car off the ground.

raising Mini

I just put my floor jack under the front jacking point, not the metal plate.

Works fine, gets both wheels on one side off the ground.

You got the jack stands from HF? Those look really nice (and small), but they don't seem to have them on their site today.

on this car you can jack up the front factory jack point and the
rear will lift up as well.

I use 2 hydraulics to do rotations. as far as using your jack stands,
as mentioned above, just set the hydraulic under the black plastic
molding about 5-6 inches towards the middle of the car and about
a foot from the front factory jack point and up you go.

then place your jackstand on the factory jack points.

hope you got some wheel choks.

For frequent jacking I suggest taking off the stupid rubber jack points and using the place where they were to jack the car. I had my Mini on a jack to change to race wheels and the #&*@'ing thing came off (I've probably hit a few too many cones with it autocrossing) and the car fell onto the jack right over the passenger-side footpan. I now have a nice hump in the floor there. I'm sure it will pound out but it still makes me angry to think about it.
