If you are, then be careful!!
The stock airbox cover for the MC has two hex screws on the right-hand side, and opens like a book to the left. On the left-hand side there are like two little 'hinge'-type clips that are REALLY easy to break. Once you tilt it far enough to the left, you can just lift off the cover.

I switched to a Pipercross Viper intake a while back, but just switched back to run with the stock airbox. I'm trying to figure out how much benefit I was really getting from the Viper intake...
I recently took my MINI in for service because it was still Idling too low even after the software upgrade, and the technician said the Viper filter was letting too much air flow in, causing it to Idle lower even though more air in gives a slight improvement in mid-range acceleration. Since the Idle settings are built into the software, they can't be adjusted.

Sounds like dealer tech BS to me. Add any aftermarket part to any car and the dealer will often say it is causing whatever problem you're having. I'm sure the people at Piper tested the idle air flow when designing the intake. I'd email them and see what they say.
Might want to try a K&N filter. At $35 through helix13 it's a bargain if you're not looking to change the factory airbox.

Yeah total BS. The cars computer is adaptive. It has to be so that the engine will run at optimum efficiency at various altitudes and temps. After a while the computer will adapat to the increased air flow.

BS or not,
My MINI Service Advisor and the technician/mechanic say that my modifications, namely the pipercross viper intake, are what is causing the engine to Idle at lower RPMs than normal...the Tech also specifically said he thought it was acceptable to have a rougher Idle given the better acceleration performance.

However, it still stalls out every once in a while when dropping down to Idle. So, I am going to run for a while with the stock airbox back on and see if the situation improves. If not, I will bring it back in and insist they look at the throttle body, fuel pump, and whatever else it could be.

If you have a Pipercross Viper intake installed and your MC Idles great (which I would define as above 900 rpms at all times) and never stalls out, please let me know. Thanks.

P.S. I agree the software is Adaptive, but it ISN'T adapting to my satisfaction.
