Putting '05 Xenon's on my '03 with Xenon.

Okay I finally spotted the new 05 Xenon headlights and LOVE the new lens!!!!!! SO much so I want to replace my 03's headlights with them.

Has any one a part number for the 05 lights? Is it a simple swap out? The washerjets I already have so i'm assuming it will still work with the new lights.

Pictures for comparison would be great if anyone has them please post....

Won't be cheap...

Check Classic Auto Campus (see the vendor listings). They also told me about a parts swap fitment, so they may be able to answer your questions on that as well.

Gonna be pricey

How much are the '05 Xenons going for? They gotta be up near 2 grand, I'd bet.

Let us know if you find them somewhere. There's many of us who agree with you, the new Xenon's look so trick.

Well, you could always just replace the entire bonnet, no?

Hmm....

According to the following thread over on MINI2.com, MINI/BMW makes a retrofit kit for upgrading prior years xenons to the 05 spec (although I'm not sure if you guys already have xenons or not). There's even a part number given for the retrofit kit:

http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95668

Perhaps (as with a lot of other MINI parts & accessories), it's just not available in the U.S.

Dude, are you even speaking English here? If so, I don't understand a single word of what you wrote???

It must be the generation gap I suppose. I'm getting to be quite an old fart now.

Do you have the part # for the retrofit kit? I heard the light control module needs to be replace? Can you post some pics and detail here.

When Gabe's Motoringfile.com comes back up I'll check it. I remember a post about a retrofit kit being available.

Do the 05 xenons perform better than the old style. Mine work great, don't much care how they look. Well not for 2 grand

Here's a comparison:

IMHO, the '05 xenons cast a more-defined light beam. With the new projector-style lens, I only wish BMW/MINI made them into adaptive headlamps that swivel into turns. (They already have the motor to automatically level the beam...)

I have been wanting to do this for sometime! I'm glad I'm not the only one. The cost is $650 USD per light! ouch.

In the little bit of research that I have done it appears this is only an option for European MINI owners. I am being told that American MINI dealers do not have the required software needed to reprogram the car. Physically the installation is a pretty straight forward swap but the require software is the hang up.

Here is a link to the PDF document off of motoringfile. I called classic with the part numbers and they tell me all 4 part #'s won't even come up in their system.

I would love to hear from anyone in the US that has completed this retrofit successfully.

What parts did you have to buy? Just the headlamp assembly itself?

yep just the headlight unit, basically it came with the balast and everything in it so it was just simply taking the 02 out of the hood unpluging it and then plugging in the new 05 their was no modding at all of the plug, wires or any modding of the headlamp at all
could not have been more easy

didnt have to buy a thing it was just an even swap!
