P1226 and Throttle body failure?
Hey all,
Today I managed to trip the SES and EML lights and the car went into limp home mode. May I add that this was on a back road overtaking at 50mph'ish and then there was suddenly no power . I nearly caused a massive accident because of it.
I have a bored (63mm) TB from a tuner here in the UK. After the episode above, I pulled the fault code with my Peake scan tool:
P1226 Throttle Malfunction (Flap Malfunction).
Does anyone have any advice to offer me please? Has anyone experienced something similar?
It looks to me to be pretty self explanatory. The throttle body packed up and even now there are times when the throttle application feels 'sticky' like the TB is not responding properly. I intend on sending it back and getting a stock replacement plus refund, but I wanted to be sure that I wasn't missing anything vital in my diagnosis.
Also, following the installation of a header with 120cpsi CAT, the car is running a SES light which is very annoying. Wish I had bought Milltek now...can anyone help me with the two issues above please?
Many thanks in advance,
Henry

On my '02 MCS, when I had a intermittent TB failure, it was throwing P1125 and P1126 when it failed. MINI finally replaced the TB and my problem went away.
I would say that any bored TB is suspect in a situation like this -- I've heard that the process requires disassembly of a fairly intricate mechanism inside the TB motor.
