Something rubbing me wrong

I'm simply voicing my opinion, that's all.

So you really have no place attempting to act like the paragon of virtue on a web-board. 160 IQ( ) or no.

BUT - you're right, of course; I'm high-handed, overly moral, and a braggart - and my mere presence here is probably highly offensive to everyone who reads this, so I'll quit posting in here.
Thanks for the lively discussions - it's been fun.

Dang it! The discussions always turn interesting while I'm driving home from work...
UUnetbill, you rock!
To anyone who thinks defrauding insurance companies and cheating on taxes is a justifiable course of action, please please please never complain again about how much these things cost. Also, please don't hold it against the rest of us when we stone you in the town-square.
It's a sad day when honesty and integrity are reviled as "high-handed morality".
I'm going to go have some tea and install my new Schroth harnesses.
Original poster: good luck with your tire issues. Get rid of the run-flats!!

Okay, I said I was done posting here, but I need to say one more thing:
The 'guy' we're ready to lynch here NEVER said he did the 'nail in the tire' trick; he was advised to do it and passed on that information. I was not condoning that behavior, nor was I crucifying the original poster. I only said (quite strongly) that I disagreed with that advice, and things snowballed.
In his defense, he bought his tires straight out with no illegal activity taking place whatsoever.
<Gone again, sorry>

back to topic..
I got the same described noise when I put on new Azenis RT-615s..
Took it to the dealer (thinking it is from busted strut mounts) but was told it was my tires.. Felt bad, but i am feeling better now.
It's definitly either my wheels (low offset of +36) acting up on the wheel bearings or just tires. If I put back my S-Lites with Runflats, the sound is almost gone.

As for the brake dragging the rotor, this is normal. The pads dont retract from the rotors when de-applied, rather they relax their grip and remain slightly touching the surface of the discs. The very slight (normal) play that exists in the wheel bearings helps the rotors to 'shake off' the pads a bit more when driving, but there will always be the slightest of rubbing. If the pads were to retract or get pushed back by faulty wheel bearings, the initial pedal travel when applying the brakes will be excessive, and subsequent applications would be 'normal' (the brakes will have been 'pumped up'). If you feel this phenomenon, there is excessive play in the wheel bearings, or the rotors are not 'true' (runout, warped, parallelism out of spec, etc).
You will also tend to hear some rubbing sounds after washing the car or if it sat in rain and the rotor surfaces became rusted. One or two brake applications will clear that up, it's normal, especially given some of the more open wheel designs that expose the brake rotors.

I know this isn't the tire forum but what would you recommend for non-runflat replacement? Preferably something cheaper but with good performance....all season....??

Wah Wah sound from tires
Thanks for all the lively discussion! I am a life long car nut and love our new Mini MCSa. The sound described in the original post has happened to me on several previously owned cars & SUV's and each time it was a tire some worse than others and some noticeably scolloped on the inside of the tread due to incorrect alignment. I have never owned run flats and will probably goe with conventional performance tires at replacement time due to cost and ride-handling. I dont like high Ins. costs but was dissapointed with a suggestion online to nail tires as a way to get a new set early.
All the best to all you Mini Folks.
