whats this sound (short vid)

hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows where this noise is coming from, or if you have heard it too? It usually happens around 80mph but ive only heard it a few times as i usually drive speed limit. It sounds like its wind blowing over the windshield wipers but its not that cause i moved them last time and it didnt stop. It always comes from the same spot near my left ww wiper. I dont know, but its weird, the sound comes near the end of the vid. Hit a stretch on the ny thruway and didnt know i was going so fast till my gf showed me the vid , kinda dumb but i had to make the noise once so i could ask you guys...

It almost sounds like a stall warning in an airplane. Maybe some air pressure buildup that is venting through a very small hole? I hope someone else could help more...

I'm not sure... I think it's saying "Is that all you got? You need to bring your 'A' game next time!"

If you hear it with the AC on (girlfriend in car) Press the recirc. button. Do you have any aux. gages routed through the firewall? Try a strip of electrical tape around the windshield trim leading edges. Have you tried to duplicate the noise while in reverse yet? Kidding.

it usually happens with the recirc. on and with ac on or off. no guages going through there. i was thinking maybe its the wind flowing over the vents near the windshild in some weird way or angle on mine, kinda like blowing over a bottle? im gunna have to try the tape and stuff and see what happens. looks like another trip to lake george is required so i have open road . and 4 more hours with the cranky girlfriend ahh! its so weird, first time i heard it i almost jumped out of my seat cause was so loud and sudden.

Is it my imagination, or did it start at 120 mph on the vid ?

To me it sounded air-related as it waivered a bit. Kinda like the sirens the Germans mounted on Stuka divebombers. They started up as the planes reached velocity in a dive.

you mean the air buffering in and out of the Vents? It seems like there is a moving object in there that pushes and blocks air from flowing freely? Thats my thoughts.

Mine did this yesterday and I nearly wet myself. I was drivivng faster than I should have been (4th gear @ 6500 rpm) in a secluded area. My initial thought was that a bearing had gone in the blower or an accesory. I braked quickly & the noise stopped. All appears to be fine & belt looks ok. I'm due for my second service & will have the dealer investigate.

It def. sounds wind related. Maybe with the recirc on it forces the air to stay under the hood, thus causing the noise from a cowl vent?

I've got no idea though.

also...in before the lock

Move the Caprisun. It's wind from the vent blowing over the straw.

It's just wind whistling noise.. used to get that all the time in my old car near the windshield..
I would check the moulding around the windshield first.

intake vents whistling?

Its your subconcious....cause your driving like a nut... one day you'll break down...and have to divert your mod money to therapy and cases of Capri-Sun to drown your agony...

yep...it was the by-pass....I would have that replaced....basically the spring needs to be stronger...cause it's like a balloon vibrating from the air...

they call in "the honk"

Many MINIs have this problem, mine from new. It's a seal in the fresh air system that is buried behind the dash somewhere. The reason it can vary when it appears is that it will start at lower speeds if you are driving into a head wind. My dealer shrugged his shoulders and wouldn't even take the car out for a test drive to determine. MINI has to know about this but will not issue a recall to fix. It stinks on a 25 grand subcompact to have this shreeking noise when you drive. There is nothing you can do to the A/C controls or rolling down windows that will stop it.
