MC, 1st gear, 3k+ RPM.... Nothing

Hi All,

thought i'd pose this here to see if anyone has run into a similar situation and can tell me if what I describe is a problem or actually part of the MC design.

Ocasionally in 1st gear I lose all power above 3k. I can keep the throttle down and run the engine up to 6.5k without getting anything more than I was getting at 3k. It only seems to happen if I've downshifted to 1st, like while in a traffic jam. Hasn't happened 'off the line' yet.

Has only ever happened in 1st. I don't think it's the 3k 'dead zone' as I'm pretty used to that. This is different, almost like the CPU isn't feeding gas to the engine, or somehow the power is getting lost in translation between engine and pavement.

I don't think it's the same as the yo-yo that i've read about, but who knows maybe that's it.

thoughts???

I only down shift into first in a parking lot-style crawl. I think there may be some computer protection to keep you from getting into first above a certain rpm to avoid damage, such as if you shifted into first from, like, fourth, going 45mph. Otherwise, maybe you should tap the gas to get the rpms up while the clutch is in then let it out at the corresponding time into first. Work the gas and the clutch together instead of letting the synchros do it for you.

Good luck-

Now I'm not going to try this, but I'm pretty sure if you downshifted into first at 45+ MPH, the engine would rev. way past the red line, like all the way, rev limiter or no rev. limiter.

My MC starts to really pull around 4K rpm,and does so right up to bounce.
Does not matter if I'm just getting rolling, or downshifting while rev. matching.
The ASC+T even blinks at around 4500 rpm if I time going to WOT right, even on clean dry pavement.

I never spin the wheels at launch, get rolling quickly, then just go hard.
I don't see the point of doing any of this in traffic, only while getting going from a stop on the highway.

45mph in fourth?

Thanks for taking a stab at it you guys!

I think I might have been a bit misleading in my post. When I said downshift into 1st I meant dropping from 2nd to 1st at around 8-10k (or 2-4MPH for the 'mericans on here ). Mostly if i'm in a traffic jam and have 'almost' come to a complete stop, without actually stopping. Might be similar to a rolling stop at a stop sign. So i drop into 1st and hit the gas to get me going again, but like I described above it just gives up around 3k in 1st.

Same thing if i'm rev matching (no heel-toe on the freeway)

I noticed the same thing this weekend in my 03 MCS. At about 3K the car just plateaus. I've also noticed it in second gear.

You're right, it only happens on a downshift. I have not noticed it off the line.
