2005 issues...

Hate to start this, but would like to know if anyone has had these issues I have experienced with my 2005... Love the car, but plan to get details/problems looked into and possibly fixed at my 10k check up. Also, just curious if any other 2005's have unique personality issues (also known as problems)

1) Bubble wrap noise in dash at about 40 degree mark, sounds like bubble wrap or sand being thrown at windshield.. dealer once looked at this but couldn't duplicate
2) Passenger and driver front window rattle a bit when closing or opening door with window up
3) window on driver side doesn't always go down 1/8 inch when closing/opening
4) cold start stumble in morning, which apparently happens to most model years..
5) engine idle doesn't feel as smooth my 2004 did.. idles fine, but with a bit of a diesel roughness....

but, car is much faster, more enjoyable, and love the LSD...........

Guess I'll chime in: 12,600 miles

Had issues #2 rattle in the windows. But my friends 325 does that too.

Cold start stumble in May - figured it was the summer gas issue, it's been fine since then.

Weepy rear wiper jet.. Dealer said it was normal.. it's annoying as there's always a stain on the boot... Anyone know of a fix for this?

Otherwise just miles and miles of fun Willing to accept a few British car quirks for this amout of driving pleasure...

HEY, at least it's not a Lucas Electric system

I had #5 but my Mini SA did something yesterday, now works perfect. BTW my SES light came on yesterday, took the car to service, they changed an O2 censor, kind of odd for 12K, wa-doo-u-theenk?

My 05 has a rattle type of noise coming from the center top of the dash.
The LSD makes a moaning noise when going slow around corners or backing out of the driveway with the wheels turned..
Some say this is normal...

personality

Thanks for the input.. I plan to keep this puppy for a long time if able and want to get details sorted out by the dealer when i'm able at the 10k check up...

It's funny, when I think about these issues at my work, I want em fixed and get annoyed, but on my drive home, I smile, love the car and forget about the minor issues... the car is soooo much fun...

I have a 2005 MCS Oct 04 build with 12000 miles

not sure what the bubble wrap noise would sound like, but I had a sound that seemed to be acoustically amplified in the a/c duct vents... ended up being powersteering.... replaced under warranty...

good luck

1 - I can't test (Florida)
2 - Nope
3 - Yes. Dealer readjusted the windows, fine ever since.
4 - nothing to do with model year
5 - same engine, not related to model year - perhaps ECU version

no, but my dealer also said that this was normal.

something tells me that there have been other cars in the world with rear washers that don't leak.

And what is in that fluid that causes it to leave a nasty, sticky stain?

Thoughts?

Weepy rear wiper jet -> same here. It flows around the logo, and I guess dirt collects. 1 month old MINI. Only real problem, though I do have some "squeaks" - nothing annoying yet.

3000 miles and 3 months produced the weeping hatch window, Engine service light, which the dealer fixed with a replacement sensor and an item which I have had since day one and wonder if it is a normal situation i.e. supercharged engine stumbles between 3100 and 3200 rpm. Otherwise it runs like a fine watch. Is this a transition range where the supercharger cuts in? Can the stumble be adjusted/eliminated?

Intermittently, I have the "bubble wrap" noise...hadn't noticed any association with outside or interior temperature...I'll pay attention next time.

For what it is worth.

My glove box door would fall open going over a bump. Bad brake computer,it did not send a signal to the left rear brake light. My tranny failed, the doors would not open, the foam under the bonnet vents turned to mush, my hatch latch rattled, my doors rattled.

ALL have been fixed, and nothing has come up in 25k miles. The tranny, and doors not opening were cold related, as in -50F. The other stuff was just stuff that happens.

The car has always started, even at -50F, it runs as strong now as when it was new, maybe better. The clock shows 58K miles. It has never failed me to get where I needed to go, even when the tranny went.

I admit that I was upset at each and every failure, but I love this car, and will motor in it for a long time.

The 05's will not be perfect either, get things worked out when they come up, and just enjoy the most fun car on the road, IMOP

2005 with roughly 13k miles. Nov. '04 build so no LSD.

1) Bubble wrap noise in dash at about 40 degree mark, sounds like bubble wrap or sand being thrown at windshield.. dealer once looked at this but couldn't duplicate Minor dash noise resolved by dealer
2) Passenger and driver front window rattle a bit when closing or opening door with window up No
3) window on driver side doesn't always go down 1/8 inch when closing/opening No
4) cold start stumble in morning, which apparently happens to most model years.. Same here but Dinan Stage 3 has improved it.
5) engine idle doesn't feel as smooth my 2004 did.. idles fine, but with a bit of a diesel roughness.... Didn't have '04 but I sometimes get the roughness when A/C is on.

Also have dribbly rear wiper jet.

1000 miles. No problems so far except for an occasional dash buzz near windshield pillar. A sharp rap of the hand to the dash quieted it so far.

Sometimes I can hear the LSD I think, but nothing like the groan that comes from a Passat 4Motion.

I've heard what I think you're calling the "bubble wrap" noise. I assumed it was something to do with the A/C (condensation drainage sound perhaps?).

I also had the rough idle after starting it on a cold morning issue. I took it to the dealer and they said this is normal and not bad for the engine. They reccomended consistantly using a namebrand fuel that you find doesn't cause the issue. Since this is common (according to all the threads about it here on NAM), and MINIs still seem to go long and strong, and hold their resale value, I'm not sweating it.

For all the other issues (especially the window related ones), I'd say make sure the dealer fixes it. In fact, make an appointment now.

Hi Spec, It's Hyper Blue so it shows nicely. I didn't think it'd be that noticible on Pure SIlver.. somhow I think this isn't "normal"

Thankfully I haven't experienced any of these issues. My '05 MCS has been on the road since the middle of December and just crossed the 4750 mile mark. It'll be interesting to see if any of these appear as the mileage increases. I certainly hope not. I would however, be quick to tell any dealer that told me that a leaky wiper jet was normal what a crock that was. It's a defect that should be fixed.

Hope they'll take care of it for you.
