removing the hood stripes
#1
i hope i'm posting this to the right forum-- removing decals isn't what i would exactly call "techy" but bear with me
what is the best way to remove the hood stripes? i imagined using some kind of heat to loosen the adhesive, perhaps a blow-dryer or heat gun? i don't want to end up burning holes into the paint, etc...
tia,
mike.

I'm now on my third set of stripes. Mostly I'm just changing the pattern periodically, because vinyl is cheap.
Anyhow, use a hair drying and then pull up slowly to try to take as much of the adhesive with the vinyl as possible. It's not that big of a deal to remove them. I used a clay bar and some quick detailer to clean up the adhesive.

I used a 3M clay bar (I purchased it through my local NAPA autoparts), but Mother's makes some good ones too. Basically the clay bar has the consistency of play-doh and helps to pick up all of the little debris that gets on your paint. You need to use a lubricant to allow it to work properly. For the paint I use Maguilers quick detailer and for the windowscreen, just use the window cleaner of your choice (it helps pick some of the crude out of the window glass as well).
