I know this has probably been discussed before but has anyone bought one of these an installed

High performance filter Pipercross

High air flow panel replacement filters. Replace the original Paper filters with a life long/reusable filter that increases performance though-out rev range.

Do these really work? I was kind of talked into it and now I'm wondering if I should install it. Will the dealer have a problem with it? I know there is a little bottle of oil you have to add. Can I take it to my oil changing place and have them put it on .
Im so afraid of doing something wrong. Got the filter from DR

Thanks

I have the BMP cone filter set up in my MCS and my butt-meter says it definately made an improvement. I have K&N filters in a pickup truck and a supercharged GrandPrix that are flat panel type and fit in the OEM filter boxes. I noticed improvements with the K&N filter in both vehicles. The K&N filters probably came pre-oiled. If not, you will have to spray the oil on them. No big deal, just spray on till it's red then set it aside and let any excess drip off for a while before you install it. The performance gains may not be as significant as a cone filter set-up but their will be some increase.
Your dealer should have absolutely no problem with this. After market filters will in no way void a warranty. Most MINI dealers are selling high performance after market filters and installing them. As an example: My service dept., MINI of Peabody in Peabody MA, is selling and installing BMP filters; Borla, SuperSprint and Magnaflow exhaust systems; sway bars (I think) and other performance goodies. They are into performance and are glad to help an owner tweak their car as much as possible. Just be careful with non "bolt-on" performance items like supercharger pulleys, limited slip differential and ECU reprogramming. These three will instantly void the warranty.

And that ain't all: The service manager and the technicians got the dealership owner to sponsor a MINI that they will set up as a drag car to take up to New Hampshire Drag Way in the spring and summer! Those of us on the sign-up sheet will get to help crew the car! These guys are as crazy as us!
