Washer Fluid Resivour/Pump/Jets Problem

Hey guys, heres one to pick your brain.....

My 04 S seems to have a problem squirting fluid out of the washer jets.

I hear the relay click, but nothing comes out, nor does the motor turn on. Do these burn up easy? I never really check it when i bought the car to see if it worked (I got it used)

I really dont wanna pull off the fender unless i have to. I checked the fuse for the washers, looks good. The relay clicks, so i know its getting power....

any ideas?

My logic leads me to believe the sprayer motor is the problem. You think the line could be clogged? Or, the motor is inoperable. Perhaps the motor has a dead spot--like what starters get occasionally. If it's not too new to you, ask the previous owner if he had problems with it.

Any chance the washer jets are clogged? Like maybe with wax? Wouldn't that be nice!

The motor might be dead, I had to get mine replaced when i first got my Mini because the water jets wouldn't reach the windshield.

During normal operation the pump operates for a short time

then shuts down. There must be an electronic wingdoodle (technical term)

that times the shut down and when faulty....no pump. Find that

define wingdoodle, lol

as far as i can tell, the pump is operated depending on how long you hold the lever back. no timeing, it shust off as soon as you let the lever go. ive gotta check the relays again to see if i'm even getting power from them towards the pump itself. my bently manual is coming this week, i sohuld be able to do more once i see a wiring diagram.

Did you mention if your MINI is still under warranty? The reason I ask is because there are a number of electrical components that need to be "keyed" to the VIN in order to work. It's sort of like programming the unit to accept commands from the car. In short it sometimes takes more than just power to get a unit to function. It may need the right signal. Could this be part of the problem?

i'm not too sure why washer fluid squirters would have anything to do with any of the computer programmed componenets

but knowing BMW it probably could be.

the reason i'm not going in for it is because of my stereo, Classic has a bunch of rather half *** mechanics and i really dont trust any of them with my car. Last thing i need is to bring it in only to have them completely unwire my entire stereo stup only to tell me it had nothing to do with the problem at hand. they did the same thing with the LCD tv i had in my red cooper. they charged ME MONEY to take out my LCD setup only to tell me it wasnt part of the problem!!!!

just brain storming...

somewhere between pump and relay there is a gremlin gnawing on your wires.
i've never seen the plug to the pump, but could it be improperly wired?
wires internally corroded?
if the pump works and there is power at the fuse... replace everything in between.
bently manual should help better than me.

too bad all they let you se is both ends of the wiring, all of the wires dive right back into the main harness after they go from the fusebox and from the pump :impatient

the plug looks brand new.

i tested the power farhter down the line before the plug and still noi power there.

i could perhaps just jump it from the end of the relay right to the other side of the circuit, near the pump itself. that way i could save the hastle of yanking my entire dash out to hack open the main harness....

the manual should be here today, i'llk see what i can find out...

Isn't there an interrelationship between the front light washers and the window washers? Periodically the front light washers will go off based on the number of times you use the window washer. This suggests a computer or relay switch controller. Are the front light washers working properly? If so, logic dictates it is in the window washer pump, not a controller, that is the likely culprit.

Check the applicable fuse(s). Just because you have control power (power to click the relay), you may not have power to the relay's contact side.

The relay's contacts may be corroded, dirty, or worn out. Try swapping relays and see if that fixes it.

Rawhyde

PS Let us know what the problem is when you figure it out.
