So let's see, MINIMAM's woes were she couldn't drive a stick on an uphill grade, a coolant tank leaked, her throttle bogged because she couldn't feather the "throttle by wire" system correctly and there were some rattles?!?!:
Just a HUNCH, another TROLL...?

Hondas, it would appear aren't quite so trouble or rattle free as some might be believe are they? This in no way is meant to knock Honda, rather its a glimpse of reality. Cars aren't perfect.
In addition to my 2002 Cooper, I own a 2002 Civic. Although it hasn't been to the dealer as often as the MINI, the Civic is driven primarily by my wife and she's not as picky as I am. When I hear a buzz or rattle, she says she doesn't hear it. That weird feeling in the clutch turned out to be the master cylinder, that luckily was replaced under warranty. The warranty was only 3 years/36,000 miles. I recently felt that same funny feeling in the clutch and had to refer to the above Civic website to find a fix. Some of the lower trim occasionally comes loose and I recently had to reattach it (the dealer didn't really fix it after all). I also hear some rattles and buzzes, very similar to my MINI. I know the MINI is not perfect, but it seems so much more solid in comparison... just opening and shutting the door... the steering, the shifting, the powerband. The MINI gets better gas mileage in the city (30 vs. 27), but not on the highway (36 vs. 42). I do have to say that the Civic handles the A/C much better. Not much of a power cut and it is quiet in extreme heat. The last time I was at the Honda dealer I was checking out the '06s and they looked very nice.

Dude, you need to ease up on your parania and ease up on this lady. She doesn't need more hassles. She got a problem, she explained it. She needs a daily driver and the MINI doesnt cut it. You barely had your car a week. She has many issues.

Be thankful you havent experienced any yet and how about some sympathy?

Move on

You guys notice that "Minimam" never ever replies to her incendiary/trollish posts?

TROLL ALERT

This individual works for Honda or it is a Honda salesman.

I think the hosts need to track down her IP address.

Minimam, go back to your beloved Toyota and Honda

The MINI is many things to many people, but to BMW it is an entry level vehicle, a SUB-$20K entry level vehicle. For the money, very few cars provide the levels of performance and handling that a MINI does. Life on the cheap is a trade-off. What price performance, style and street cred? A few Rattles, Squeaks and Leaks. A few hard cold starts and ECU glitches. Obviously these are unacceptable to you. Luckily, Toyota and Honda have you covered. Leave the unique vehicles for those of us who appreciate their quirks.

Guys, I'm gonna say this point blank.

Those of you calling "troll" are morons. End of story. Jesus.

All the person did was post about her problems. She didn't say "All Minis are terrible." She didn't say "People who drive Minis suck." She didn't say "Hybrids are better than all Minis." She didn't say "Hondas are better than Minis all around."

Seriously, you people saying she's a troll look like idiots, I mean damn.

What a bunch of children.

And you know what? Go ahead and be predictable.

"Well Coopersigma must be a troll too!"

or

"Well Coopersigma if you don't like it, you can leave!"

No, you know what it is? I'm tired of the condescending *********s on this site. This is a chief reason I don't count NAM as a site I go to very often. "Oh well Coopersigma, you don't have a trillion posts here so who are you to talk?"

Who am I to talk? I'm someone just like you. Nobody special.

I see that the short term for "**** orifice" is censored.

Well hey Mods, here's an idea, why not censor "troll" so all these fools can stop slinging it around on people who dare to have a different opinion than theirs like so much slop from a pig's trough.

That'd be great, thanks.

I suspect you may be correct C4.....she reads like a guerilla operative from Honda!

And CooperSigma, watch your language. Calling other NAM members morons can be construed as a personal attack. Back off.

Oh, but calling people troll isn't? Unbelievable.

Awesome logic, there.

Troll: From the fishing term. As a noun, synonymous with flamebait. As a verb, to post controversial or provocative messages in a deliberate attempt to provoke flames.

http://teladesign.com/ma-thesis/glossary.html

If someone is "deliberately attempting to provoke flames", how is that a "personal attack"

Its not proper netiquette but thats it.

Well, consider the logic behind that. That means that pretty much every single person who starts a thread discussing problems they're having with their Mini is a troll.

Well, those who don't say "I'm having (insert issue here) problems, but I still love my Mini!"

Everyone else gets immediately attacked.

I frequent many car boards, and I don't often see this site's level of fanaticism.

For that matter, this Minimam person hasn't made any personal attacks, she hasn't made any absolute claims or statements. All she did was say "Well, I had this problem, couldn't deal with it, so I got another car and I like that more."

And what does she get? Called a troll.

so I'll say it again. Where's the logic in that?

You know what, your right. MINI owners tend to defend their choice in cars despite all the problems they might have. Posting about problems is human nature. The squeaky wheel get the grease. Posting your car is perfect is .... boring. No one cares.

so what? No biggie

Some ppl call her a troll? So what? Get over it. This aint the end of the world.

Peace

You know, you're right. It's not the end of the world. It's just the end of my respect for a few of the members here. And the mods don't like that, or don't like my manner, then they're free to kick me out of here so they can get back to allowing their double-standards.

I don't care at this point. It's Saturday night. I'm off.

Honda guerrilla operative?

I had a strong hunch that by posting my honest opinion about my MINI affair, I would be called a troll. I didn't suspect I'd be called a Honda guerrilla operative/salesperson.

During my year of reading posts on this site, one common theme I have found running through here is the defensive, and yes, rude and childish responses, to those who dare to have different opinions. To those who dare to question MINI in any way, shape or form. That poor young guy who wavered between a Scion Tc and a MINI. Jeez. He must have felt really welcome here.

I have not trashed MINIs nor called MINI owners stupid, because that is not what I believe.

MiniClo, I'm surprised at your response to me. You have always come across as one of the more polite and reasonable members of this board. See, even if I have never posted, I have read avidly. Many of your personalities I feel I know. The gentlemen, the ladies, the young and passionate owners, the smart-a.......the whole gamut of humanity.

Is it easier to think that I am a Honda guerrilla operative or a labor malcontent than to listen to my questions about possible underlying safety/quality control issues? What makes you think that there aren't guerrilla MINI motoring advisors on this site? If I were a MINI motoring advisor, with good writing skills, I'd be mighty tempted to pump up sales by going for the gusto with pep posts extolling the virtues of MINI!

I have no desire to get into a flame war. Hopefully, my post will give another viewpoint to those who research their choice of automobiles. Certainly, there have been many articulate, thoughtful and respectful counterpoints to my thoughts about MINI quality that should very well persuade someone to take the plunge and join the culture of MINI motoring. Those of you who made articulate postings about your own experiences with MINIs persuaded me to make the leap.

Psychologically speaking, I think all car enthusiasts become one with their cars. Hence, the feeling of personal attack when the love car of their lives is perceived to be attacked.

I've said my piece. No troll, no guerrilla operative. Just a gal who had a fling with a MINI.

Peace

Wow, the complete idiocy that lurks beneath the pleasant "nature" of this board is absolutely amazing. It is also amazing how insecure we all are while we advertize our lack of integrity.

If those two sentences offended you - then you know who I was speaking to.

Anyhoozle, I'm going to go ahead and actually answer minimam's question.

No, probably not. Rattles, buzzes, and other annoyances are probably enough to make me not buy another MINI. BUT, they won't keep me from keeping this one forever

My MINI and I are attacked almost everyday. Why did you get that, it won't last a winter, to small, can't go through snow. etc, etc, etc.

Well my MINI and I have proved them all wrong, we are going strong, deal with EXTREME cold, and motor 100miles everyday.

I'm sure some of the cars that Oxford puts out are not as tough as mine, who knows why, bad day for the robots, mid Thursday blues, no one knows.

But attacking other MINI owners, on a site DEDECATED to all things MINI is rude, and will not get you any friends.

Friends for me is what this site is all about. Friends may let friends know they don't like something. I will back my friends, and defend them, even if they may be wrong, if they are attacked.

Be kind, get over things before you post, and support your fellow MINI owners.

If you don't like the Mini, they call you a troll.........

If you question the value of the JCW kit, you're called a complete ***........

It's apparently easy calling people names on the internet, hiding behind the anonymity of a screen name (Skiploder!). It's apparently a lot harder to act civilly to someone who politely presents a dissenting opinion.

As to Minimam - enjoy your Civic in good health. A lot of us have not drunk of the BMW NA corporate kool-aid and are willing to both appreciate the positives of our Minis and yet at the same time recognize both their shortcomings and the incredibly crappy attitude of their manufacturer.

Cold starts? Limp modes? Yo-yos? Chafed wiring harnesses? A complete inability to give us one DME without numerous issues? - welcome to the wild, wonderful work of BMW! Be glad that it was only a Mini - some of us were stupid enough to buy the Mini after years of owning unreliable Z3s, X5s, 3 series and 5 series Bimmers.

I love my Mini to pieces, but at the same time, I'm lucky to have an excellent personal mechanic and my car is a 100% canyon and track toy. I'm on my third rear boot latch, my MAP and coolant sensors have gone kaput, I've seen two throttle bodies, my glove box is held together with duct tape, my wiring harness needs to be replaced and my air conditioner refuses to work for more than four consecutive months. The coolant expansion tank leak? Had it. Squeaks? Five trips to the dealer for all the little rattle bulletins and the thing still sounds like a coffee can full of BBs. My mileage - it's a 2003 MCS with under 8K miles..........

So, who would not buy a Mini again? Sadly, me.

Skiploder....less than 8K miles? My 2003 MCS has a bit over 50K miles. I guess you'd better drive yours some more thrashings to get all the other things that break fixed before it goes out of warranty.

Yep, less than 8K miles..........but many memorable track days and back road sprints.

Some days I call my Mini's issues "character" and other days, well, I don't want to ruin the PG-13 ratring of this place.........

Wow, I can't imagine only putting 8k miles on a car that you've had for two years...

We had over 33k miles on our 2003 Cooper when we traded it in back in March, and we've already got close to 14k on our 2005 MCS that we replaced the Cooper with...
