rear brake cylinder

ok so i'm trying to change the rear pads and the brake cylinder needs to be twisted back. but we twist it and it stopped going back and it still does not have enough clearance to fit the new pads. my friend and i didn't have that special tool, but we used pliers to insert in the holes of the brake cylinder and twist it. so whats the deal why it can't go back any further? does that tool do push it in further and twist it?

piston retraction

Yes it does go back further. The piston has to be pushed in and rotated at the same time. The tool has specific pins on it that fit into piston to rotate it as it pushes in.If you are mechanical you can use a gear puller reverse the arms, place arms inside caliper to push piston in while you rotate piston with channel locks.Be carefull of piston seals you dont want to tear them.Option 2 get proper piston block and do it.

I've been successful few times just with needle nose plyers in the two small holes and pushing hard and turning at same time. Takes some effort and few tries but it's worked three times now.
