Aftermarket Coolant Resevoirs - Canton forge etc ?

I have a spare resevoir, but I'm considering going aftermarket so I can quit worrying about it. I hate the thought of spending this much money on a stupid expansion tank though.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has used the Canton tank yet?

http://www.cantonracingproducts.com/...nks.html#80272

List price is $120.
Moss wants $125, plus another $32 for the cap

This is still a little cheaper than the Forge motorsports tank

http://www.forgemotorsport.com/conte...roduct=FMMINHT

List price is $160 (unless you want to pay the minimania thieves $225)
- not sure how much extra the cap is.

Canton has a good reputation, but I'm a little worried about the picture, showing a nipple at the filler neck. This isn't right. I can't get anyone to tell me if you have to re-route the lines, if this nipple is blocked off, or what's going on. Anyone? I'm kicking myself for even considering spending this money...

I have the Forge tank. I ordered it before my baby even came in. Because of all the posts on the OEM tank. I changed it a week after i had my baby.I didn't want to worry either. Plus i'm sort of into the "Bling thing". It went on fairly easy. And you can use your stock cap. No need to buy a cap like with the other tank. Plus i like the look of the Forge better. You can see what it looks like in my gallery.

u know im considerin' this unit meself, and thought the extra exit/nipple wuz a bit odd!! do the stock units have an extra breather hole/second line we cant see unless u pull the tank out???!?!?!?!?!

i dont like the cap on the first tank
do like the forge unit, feel like it flows better in the engine bay!

Are people still having problems with expansion tanks splitting? I know this was happening early on in 2002/2003 but I thought that the updated part solved this problem.

I had the new tank installed back in early 2003 and haven't had a problem since with it leaking. . .

Unless I just wanted to look at some shiny thing under my bonnet, I'd be plenty happy with a spare tank waiting in the garage if I ever did have a probmel. . .

Stupid question time: Do I need to drain the coolant to change the reservoir? Do I even need to empty the overflow tank before I take it off, or is it OK (possible) to just be careful not to spill it when removing it? It looks like the old tank comes off easily. Does it?

I just had mine replaced in August (9/05 build) as it split and was leaking profusely.

whovous, you don't need to drain the radiator, just the expansion tank. it's real easy if you use a turkey baster. ($2 at the grocery store) it comes off easy, but space is limited. removing the coilpack helps.

Duh. Turkey baster. No idea why that did not occur to me. Too early in the morning, I guess. Thanks for the tip. The need for bling is strong...
