Id like to see the specs from a SD coil, but, none of the sites have anything besides holtage listed. voltage isnt the only important part.

Well, id assume you have a Tube style coil as in most older cars thats either oil or epoxy filled.
it does the same basic job, just in a different form.
I owuld really like to see the data from a SD coil if anyone has the info ont hem....
its actually replaced my hei unit, converted over from the standard distributor........its the whole deal , billet distributor, hopped up cap which has the magnetic points, so in shorter terms kick *** pointless system.
Summit carries it

another plus of the MSD coil is that MSD offers an igniton control box to go along with it.
it includes a rev limiter, a throttle stop for drag racing, a setting for multiple sparks, etc. chek it out, the install instructions are incredilbe!

its the DIS-2, not the 4

reguardless, i'm going to try to see what the entire setup runs. id like to try out one of thse ignition boxes on a new car.
i should also add that it adds an ignition intterupt as a theft deterent.

under 600 bucks for an ignition system thats comparable to most hot drag cars? sounds like a deal to me.

Hmmmm, do I go with a red one with 4,000 volts less or go with a black stock looking one with 4,000 volts more with about a $15-$20 diffrence in price... Hmmmm . I'll wait and see what everybody comes up with. (Data wise) Side note, The RED one sure looks good under the bonnet. but in the end, its ALL about performance....

If i had to make a desicion b/w a screamin deamon coil that i can get any info on and a MSD coil that has all of the info and more listed on their website, id go with the MSD. proven quality that i know i can trust.

I'm led to believe that since chrysler had a hand in the design, they use some of their suppliers for some of the parts. the coils are identical for both the Mitsubishi and the MINI motors.

have you seen the very nice Ignition boc that goes along with the MSD? id take that and an MSD coil over a screamin demon anyday!

IMHO, a higher voltage rating is NOT necessarily better. Thinner windings will give more voltage to advertise but at the cost of shorter lifespan and reduced current handling capability, and you'll only generate the maximum voltage when the wire is off the plug anyway. The voltage will only rise to that needed to arc-over the plug--that's why special high-voltage coils don't show power increases on the dyno (unless the original was broken).
Even the very cheapest coil is capable of driving a V-8 to 3500rpm... and if you think about it that's the same amount of work as a coil on a 7000rpm 4-cyl does. The MCS actually uses two coils, but may fire two cylinders together (eg also on exhaust stroke); works out to be the same.
The DIS box is interesting because it increases overall spark duration via multiple short sparks, that may be useful if extensive modifications (which may increase likelihood of misfire at WOT) are present. If it misfires on the first spark under 3000rpm, it will light off from one of the next ones with only slightly retarded timing. Above 3000rpm, the single spark extends over 20 degrees of crank rotation anyway.
